Revelation 6:15, 16 describes the following, “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb…”
In the verses in Revelation, it mentions every class or hierarchy of men. They are all under subjection to the “wrath of the Lamb.” Would the Arminian say that those men made a “decision against accepting Jesus?” The text tells us that they recognized Jesus Christ as the Lamb and He was the One Who brought the wrath. Since they recognized Who the Lamb Is, they are responsible to Him, without excuse. Why did they reject Him at that point in their lives? Why did they not beg for mercy and protection from the One Who was bringing it? Could they have?
John 6:37 says, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me…” The Arminian says that the Father gave all the people in the world to Jesus, if only they would “let Him in their hearts.” But then it says that they all “shall come.” But Revelation 6:15, 16 does not say that. So, where is the efficacy of the drawing by the Holy Spirit as is found in John 3:8? What does the Arminian say about that? John 6:44 also states, “No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him…” Does it say that “all men come to Him” or is it “limited” in scope to just those that the Father gives? How does the Arminian answer that?
Could it possibly be to the Arminians shock that “election” means exactly what it says? We do not send a person to the White House and then elect him. That is illogical. Could it mean that only the elect of God will be saved from falling rocks and mountains, etc.? Could it be that those who recognized the One bringing the wrath were those also listed in Revelation 17:8 which says, “…whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world…” This would make those names absent from what is written in Ephesians 1:4, “According as he hath chosen us (the elect) in him before the foundation of the world…”
Election is a solid biblical truth. If properly understood, it should humble a saved man to his knees and frighten a lost man to his knees. It is both an Old Testament teaching and a New Testament teaching. In Deuteronomy 7:6-9 it proves that God chose (elected) a nation (Israel) because He wanted to, not because of anything they did. Amos 3:2 says of Israel, “You only have I known (loved, chosen) of all the families of the earth…” Is this saying that God did not know anyone else? Of course not, He is omniscient. It says that He specifically loved and chose (elected) Israel, not the United States, nor other nations or groups of people.
Could those in Revelation 6 being recipients of the wrath of the Lamb have been saved by Jesus Christ? God can save anyone, anywhere, anytime, or in any situation if He so chooses. But it does not appear in this text that some will be saved. And why won’t all be saved? Is it because, as the Arminian says, they did not “accept Jesus” or make a “decision for Jesus?” Again, and without unneeded redundancy, God will only save His elect. So, those in Revelation 6 couldn’t be saved cause they can’t be saved.
Still, the pulpits are silent…
