Certainly, God can heal any body part that He so chooses. Certainly, He can refuse to heal any body part if He so chooses not to. He is sovereign, we are not. Scripture shows us that God did not heal everyone.
Paul did not heal Timothy, either, though he had the gift. Perhaps God has reasons for not healing some people. Paul lived with an ailment or an old sin of some kind, though not clearly identified other than from “the messenger of Satan” (II Corinthians 12:7).” Still, God is sovereign over Satan, therefore He could have intervened if He so chose to do so. Whether that was a true physical dilemma or a spiritual one, we do not know. But God can heal anything because He is God. And so, it is with us, whether spiritual or physical, God can heal if He so chooses.
But our prayer request should not be like some healing candy store where we walk up and down the aisle to see what is best for us in our needs. Neither is God some Santy Claus on a cloud waiting for us to make a healing request to heal anything, including our toenails and toothaches. But He can heal if He so chooses.
When Jesus Christ gave instructions to His disciples on how to pray (Matthew 6:9-13), He did not tell them to first pray for toenails and toothaches. Neither did He tell them to go around the room and have everybody repeat the same prayer for toenails and toothaches so it would get God’s attention. We are to first acknowledge God’s sovereignty and Holiness, not our specific needs. Not our toenails. Not our toothaches. In fact, nowhere in that prayer does it mention asking for healing of any kind. But that is not to say that we cannot or should not ask for healing, either spiritually or physically. But when a prayer room is full of people seeking healing with little to no sincere acknowledgement of Who God is, then something is wrong spiritually, not physically.
Should we ask God to heal our toenails and toothaches? I suppose. But we should always thank Him and praise Him for being our sovereign God first. So, let us pray…
