Well, I was raised in a Christian home.” But one of the best replies to that is to say, “So what.” We are conceived in sin. We are born in sin. And unless our Sovereign God saves us, we will die in sin. We are not saved by genetics. We are not saved by the environment we grew up in. We are not saved by education. We are saved by grace, and grace alone will have us believe and repent. We are not saved by grace because we have faith; we have faith because God gave us the Holy Spirit regenerated grace to believe. Too often the preacher when reading the Gospel of John will read John 1:1-12 and not read verse 13 or will brush it aside. They want us to think that we have the power to be born again of our own self. But what does verse 13 tell us? It says, “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” How much plainer can that be? And the sons of God in verse 12? Romans 8:14 answers that. It reads, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Furthermore, Acts 13:48 tells us, “That as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.” It does not say “whosoever believes” is then ordained to eternal life.” So, where in the Ordo salutis does being raised in a Christian home rank? It does not say anything even close to that. Where in Romans 8:28-30 does it say anything about being raised in a Christian home? It does not say that at all.
One of the best ways to start a testimony is to say, “I was a sinner and God saved me.” And one of the best replies is to say, “Amen!”
